You will hear me defend agnosticism, insular arrogance, irrational anchoring, and the Second Amendment before you will hear me offer a general defense of the food quality of American fast food chains.
As a child not very into the burger, going to fast food restaurants was a tough experience. While my peers salivated at the mere idea of a Quarter Pounder with fries, I shrugged with indifference. Whether you’re a child or an adult, you should be able to comprehend the frustration that comes from the vast majority of others appreciating something far more (or far less) than you do (e.g. Fireworks!).
Nonetheless, there was one culinary fast food development during my childhood that changed everything. That was, of course, Wendy’s introduction of the pita. In 1997, Wendy’s stunned fast food consumers everywhere by introducing three varieties of “Fresh Stuffed” Pita: Chicken Caesar, Classic Greek, and Garden Veggie. The latter was too bland for my tastes, but the first two options provided my taste buds with such pleasure that the days of fast food frustration were soon forgotten. The flatbread was particularly thick but not dry, the chicken was juicy but not fatty, the dressing was tasty but not salty (well, maybe it was salty based on the nutritional information). There were vegetables other than iceberg lettuce, including, red cabbage and romaine lettuce. The pita provided a great alternative for those who didn’t want a burger or a salad, but something in between. Oh, and the pita was ridiculously cheap. Initially, the price ranged from $1.99 to $2.99.
The NPI research staff has not been able to find the exact date when the pita was discontinued, but it was approximately three years after its introduction. This was devastating. Luckily, as a thirteen year old, I had just become a man and was able to take the pita’s demise with external poise and calm. And I wasn’t the only one who missed the pita: The Yahoo Questioner on this page missed it too (although, he apparently didn’t realize it was missing for nine years). Apparently, the pita did pretty well with the female demographic too. But, Wendy’s discontinued it anyway. To be clear, I have tried McDonald’s snack wrap; it doesn’t compare: The wrap is flimsy, the dressing is just their typical ranch or honey mustard, and the lettuce is iceberg.
So, Wendy’s, please, for the sake of women and children with alternative tastes everywhere, I urge you to bring back the pita.

Fast food? For me, take it or leave it, mostly leave. But. Wendy’s Chicken Caesar Pita changed all that. It was the one drive-in item I would seek out. Light, tasty, nuanced. Fortunately they’re not too difficult to re-create in one’s kitchen, but still.

I was a fresh stuffed pita fan to. I believe someone once tried to convince me that they were discontinued due to the war with Afghanistan. Either because the pitas were imported from Afghanistan or they seemed to be middle-eastern which went against Wendy’s American image. I don’t think I believed them at the time..

Classic Greek Pita. Wendy’s please bring it back! A manager at a Wendy’s told me it was the time it took to assemble the pitas that caused Wendy’s to take them off their menu. It took like a few seconds longer than throwing a burger together. Come on! BRING BACK THE PITA — we’ll pay you for your time!!! If it brings back customers wouldn’t you think Wendy’s would put them back on the menu? I haven’t been to a Wendy’s in years. But I’d go back — and OFTEN — if they had the Classic Greek Pita again.

I was just thinking about these pitas today and did a recipe search which didn’t turn up anything essential. I remember these vividly yet, I don’t remember when Wendy’s discontinued them. It sort of makes sense that it may have taken slightly longer to assemble them and it became too cumbersome, however, I think the Subway concept somewhat debunks that theory. It would be great if Wendy’s would bring these back! I literally can taste the fresh softness of the pita at this moment and that amazing sauce with the red cabbage mmmm, mmmmm, mmmmmmm! I have no idea how fattening these were, but I didn’t really care too much at 12 years of age. My favorite was probably the ranch or the garden one. BRING EM BACK!! PLEASE!!!

I’ve been saying this for years. The Fresh Stuffed Pitas were the best and only thing I’ve ever ordered at a Wendy’s!! I have no reason to go back since they don’t have the pitas anymore. The Greek was my fave as well as the Garden Veggie – delicious, healthy vegetarian options. I still try to make the Greek Pita at home but they’re not the same. I used to frequent Wendy’s often. Used to. They discontinued the Classic Greek Pita and it STILL pisses me off to this day. I used to order a Greek Pita with fries more than once per week. I LOVED THOSE GREEK PITAS! I can still taste them and I’m even thinking of making my own at home. I doubt that I can replicate them, but I’ll try anything at this point. Why oh Why do places get rid of things that are so good? They even got rid of those chicken strips after a couple of years and those were absolutely delicious. Clearly Wendy’s would rather serve burgers. Not all of us wants burgers. Plus, I’ll go to McDonalds for a Big Mac wrap before I order a burger from Wendy’s. I’ll make my own darn burgers at this point.

I was a gymnast when I was younger, and had no time for meals, so my mom would get me one of these almost every night when I had practice. In Chicago, we have a place called Pita Pit, which makes some comparable pitas, but it would be SOOO much more convenient (and better) if Wendy’s would bring theirs back. Chicken caesar was the best!!!!

Fast food chains are always looking for healthier, alternative menu items other than the conventional greasy burger and fries. Please Wendy’s… bring the pitas back. Wendy’s instantly became my favorite fast food restaurant when they offered these, and I was 11 at the time.

It was the Chicken Ranch for me. I absolutely loved that thing. In a time where everyone is trying to eat healthy, an item like that would help them to get their menu back on top of the market. It’s not like it requires any more equipment than they already have. Man, I have been thinking about that pita for years and I keep wishing they would bring it back. It was the perfect flavor and it felt like I could enjoy healthy food. Please Wendy’s. I hope you find this page and find out what a mistake it was to take it off of the menu.

I too worked at Wendy’s…. back when I was in highschool. The Pita’s were the most delicious item on the menu! I can taste the caesar vinaigrette dressing to this day and the moist thick pita was to die for… when I went back and found out they were discontinued I was heartbroken. I was told it was cuz they didn’t make enough profit… burgers are so fast and easy to make. I think they should stop thinking with their pocketbook and go back to wanting to please their customers! Those pitas, and the fries ( frosty’s are yummy too) they used to have were the only reasons for me to ever visit Wendys. When they discontinued the pita’s I hardly went there at all. I do not frequent fast food chains, I mainly prepare all the meals I eat for that matter. But I would frequent that one if they brought the Pitas back in their original recipies (and hopefully their original fries too). With all these fast food chains struggling and revamping their menus, including Wendys, you’d think they would bring them back!

Yes I had a Chicken Ranch Pita for lunch everyday while I was prego in 2000 and I really miss them. They are great and do need to come back. People are trying to get away from burgers and I think this would be a great turn out if the pitas were brought back…. SO COM’MON WITH THEM!!!!!

I too loved the stuffed pita…in particular the classic Greek. I remember like yesterday when I went into their drive-thru and was told they no longer had them. Nothing else would do and I left. Today, I decided to check if Wendy’s had the recipe when I saw this page. If Wendy’s wasn’t making a profit on these, they could charge a little more and this could bring in other sales as well. I have tried to duplicate the Greek Pita from Wendy’s, but it just isn’t the same. I would think that with the push to make fast food healthier, bringing back the pitas to Wendy’s would be a no-brainer. Where is Michelle Obama when you need her?? I do believe, that despite her hubby’s failed administration so far, if they could somehow use their powers for true good and bring back the pitas, it would at least be one thing GOOD that they can brag they accomplished during their administration! 🙂

It was healthy, simple and a delicious option for people who don’t want to eat hamburgers. I’m still not over this going away. Everyone PLEASE write to Wendy’s & request they bring this back! It’s the only way it’ll happen. I’d LIVE off of these even if they charged a lot more for them. Seriously no price is too much. I’m a cook & I’ve not come close to recreating them. I don’t know why you can’t find the soft pitas they used that would wrap perfectly. Please bring back the classic Greek pitas with feta cheese on them we love them and so does my family and my kids they were a hot item to us and that’s so many others

We support your cause! When is the next rally?!? What are the next steps to take to make this happen? I am so happy to know that there are so many others out there that feel as strongly about the pita! How is it that they have Doritos Tacos and macaroni and cheese fries but cannot bring back a classic?!?

Agree 100% the Wendy’s pita still has me up at night thinking about it. My mouth waters every time I think about it. Please Wendy’s hear our cry

BEST WENDY’S MENU ITEM EVER !!! I miss them so much . I can taste the Classic Greek, Cesar and Ranch as I type this. Please Wendy’s …. those delectable, fresh sandwiches kept Earth on its orbit . Save humanity! BRING THEM BACK !

Please please Wendy’s bring the pits back I loved it. My fav I have actually stopped going to Wendy’s because you got rid of the pita and my fav dressing spicy Asian chili. Bring those both back please

I created a recipe that you can make at home: https://foodloveaffair.com/classic-greek-fresh-stuffed-pita-wendys/ You can make all 4 pitas. The chicken pitas don’t need the veggie blend required for the Greek pita, and all you need is pan-fried chicken. It’s super easy.
