I don’t complain when I watch “Girls” that “OMG” (imagine Lena Dunham saying that) there are girls in it talking to each other about “OMG”, girls. So why do so many feminists get all up in arms when they watch a male detective show and recoil at the fact that male detectives are acting like guys (guys don’t usually talk as much as Rust Cohle btw)? Come on Ms. Nussbaum lighten up. I can only remember 2 naked woman in the show, although both were beautiful and did I say naked?

Well, in Nussbaum’s defense, I think her point is that there are tons of shows out there where tough guys play detective and hunt serial killers, and she doesn’t think True Detective really stands out from the bunch. You point to Girls as a show where girls talk to each other about girls, but that’s actually really rare. Other than Girls and Orange is the New Black, there aren’t that many shows that fit that description. I can, off hand, think of more shows about serial killers (TD, Hannibal, The Following) than shows with a predominantly female cast.

Personally, I liked True Detective a lot more than Nussbaum, but I think her points about the TV landscape are valid.
