Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Battle of the Seasons, Week 4 Power Rankings

“This is a game.” —Knight (repeated about 50 times)

Man, MTV is starting early this season with the To Be Continued episodes, huh?

Not that this week’s episode lacked for drama. First, we had a night out ending in tears after Knight pulled the old “throw someone’s laundry into the pool” trick. Knight seemed to think soaking Nany’s clothes was some great strategic gambit, since it would “get in her head.” Nany did flip out and threaten to leave the game afterwards, but aren’t she and Knight on the same alliance? What’s the sense in picking a fight with someone who’s on your side?

In reality, Knight’s antics only solidified Las Vegas’ team bond and made everyone else in the house hate him. Plus, it wasn’t even original: Tonya did that back in Inferno II. Continue reading

“Evelyn is fuming, but, you know, every time Evelyn loses a challenge, an angel gets his wings.” —Ryan

“How do you know my name?” —Carley

I hate you, MTV. I hate you with a fiery passion strong enough to wean America off of foreign oil.

At least once a season, it seems, MTV annoyingly cuts to the dreaded “To Be Continued” screen before the winner of the elimination is shown. Usually, though, the cut comes at the beginning of the elimination round, before the suspense has built. Last night, though, the cut came after Evelyn and Luke had already finished their Exile course, but since Landon and Carley had completed the reward puzzle, they could finish up to five minutes after Luke and Ev and still win.

The Exile itself was the most exciting one yet. It was more or less the same as it was when Landon and Carley beat CJ and Sydney, but with two important twists. First, there were 50 pounds added to the amount of weight each team had to carry. Even more intriguing, though, was that this time it was at night…in the dark. So neither team could see where they were going, making it even harder to keep the buckets of weight from swinging. Continue reading

“We WERE making popcorn….I like popcorn!” —Kelly Anne

“Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it!” —Darrell

You can only try to pick a fight for so long before you actually have to be in one. This ought to be a lesson for both Brad and Darrell. Brad, who had clearly snapped by the end of last episode and was berating KellyAnne on her birthday and uncharacteristically chugging a bottle of wine in the beginning of last night’s episode, charged—or drunkenly stumbled—into the Champions’ room and seemed desperate to fight someone. For some reason—either his bank account, or his location in the room, or his posture—Brad picked Darrell.

Darrell did not do his best to defuse the situation. Yelling “Do it!” eight times in a row is probably not the best conflict resolution strategy. Eventually Brad did it, even if “it” was nothing more than a pusillanimous push.

Nobody can accuse Darrell of being all talk, though, as he quickly threw Brad against the wall on the other side of the room, then bounced him to the floor, where he landed four clean punches to Brad’s face. It was probably the most one-sided “fight” in RW/RR Challenge history, even edging out CT and Adam on The Duel II. Adam was at least sober, and entire teams intervened to keep CT at bay. In the aftermath of this one, which lasted about four seconds, blood was pouring out of Brad’s eye as he stumbled around the house like a baby trying to stand up for the first time. In his final confessional, his eye was purple and completely shut.

Basically, the lesson is: Don’t get into a fight with Darrell. Especially if you’re drunk. Continue reading
