Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat 2, Week 7 Power Rankings

“Is it annoying because I won most of them?” —Laurel

“Mandi is screaming at Wes to keep up…that’s one for the record books. Now Wes knows how Casey felt.” —Evelyn

For a Wes-hater like myself, you really couldn’t ask for a better episode. First, his relationship with Theresa was derailed when she found out—via Evelyn—that Wes and Kelly Anne were not as finished as he had led her to believe. Evidently, they hooked up the weekend before Fresh Meat II started and Wes promised her he wouldn’t get involved with anyone on the show. After finding this out, Theresa went from believing that Wes is a “good guy” to thinking he is kind of shady.

This shadiness also came back to haunt Wes in the game. Continue reading

Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat 2, Week 6 Power Rankings

“I’m just so sick of the honest people getting beat in this game.” —Landon

“I should write a book: How To Dismantle An Entire Alliance, by Mr. Beautiful” —Kenny

Well, that’s not exactly how I would have played it, but, for Kenny at least, everything appears to have worked out.

In an episode that potentially saw the entire balance of power shift, one thing was made perfectly clear: It’s a really good thing that neither Wes nor Evelyn nor Kenny is a world leader. You usually have to watch a Chicago White Sox game to see strategizing that perplexing.

The episode actually opens with some impressive deduction from Wes. If you recall, CJ and Sydney did not actually compete in their Exile (they won by forfeit when Brandon was DQed for drinking beforehand), but decided to say that they did in order to feign an upper hand. As Wes pushes for more details about the Exile, though, and gets more “lawyerly,” he realizes CJ’s deception. All this harsh interrogation does, though, is make CJ and Landon realize that they are at the bottom of the Wes/Evelyn Alliance. This would be the first of many cracks in that Alliance last night. Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Fresh Meat 2, Week 4 Power Rankings

“We are a well-oiled machine.”—Wes

“They absolutely killed the rest of the competition: Kenny and Laurel are again victorious. Who would have thought that Kenny would dominate a challenge this much?”—TJ Lavin

Last night’s episode wasn’t particularly exciting. It basically just served to re-illustrate the things we already knew—until, that is, the very end, which we’ll get to later.

At this point, there are basically two games being played, and they are going in very different directions. The first game is political. In the battle between the Wes/Evelyn Alliance and Kenny’s Alliance, the former is dominating. Kenny is down to two reliable partners, Ryan and Jillian, and one of them—Ryan and Theresa—can’t be counted on to win anything.

In the beginning of this episode, and several times throughout it, Wes referred to his alliance as “a well-oiled machine.” The numbers are certainly decisively in his favor, but last night’s episode showed just how “squeaky,” as Ryan put it, that machine actually is. Continue reading
